Line Information

  • Differences among the manuscripts and editions:
  • English translations (Windeatt: 1998): And I conducted her to the hill over there, alas, and there I took my leave of her! And over there I saw her ride to her father, for sorrow at which my heart will split in two! And I came home here when it was evening, and here I remain and ever shall, outcast from all happiness, till I can see her again in Troy.’
  • Chinese translations (Fang: 1956):

Comments from the Editor

This stanza closely follows Fil.5.58, but there is a notable difference in the portrayal of Troiolo/Troilus’ location. In Fil, Troiolo goes directly to the gate where Criseida left, whereas in Tr, Troilus observes the location from a distance.
