Before Troilus goes to meet Criseyde on the night of consummation, he claims, “For nevere yet no nede/ Hadde ich er now, ne halvendel the drede” (3.706–07). Pandarus teases him, and his sense of humor becomes evident from his words, which are undoubtedly effective in comforting Troilus.
