- English translation (Windeatt: 1998) (Windeatt: 1998): And then, when he took note and observed how every window of the place was shut, it seemed to him his heart grew cold as frost; and so, with an altered, deathly pale face, he passed on by without a word, and, as God would have it, he rode so fast that no one caught sight of his face.
- Japanese translation (Sasamoto: 2012) (Sasamoto: 2012):
- Chinese translation (Fang: 1956) (Fang: 1956):

Comments from the Editor
The quotation follows 5.52, in which Troiolo visits Criseida’s empty house with Pandaro. However, there is also a slight difference: while Boccaccio described that Troiolo’s countenance would have given manifest tokens to anyone who had caught a sight of him, Chaucer clearly claims that no one saw Troilus’s face.
