And God knows what my life may be like, since I’m in the grip of such desire right now that I’ll die at once unless I can come back. How should I stay away from you for long, alas?

Comments from the Editor

The day breaks after the two protagonists’ consummation and Troilus has to leave. In the quotation in which Troilus laments, it is evident that he wants Criseyde to promise they will meet like this again. In her next speech, Criseyde emphasizes their inseparable relationship and promises Troilus that if it pleases him, they will meet like this again.
