Comments from the Editor

This scene takes an ironic tone vis-à-vis the custom of women to visit each other and chat about trifles and is inherited from Fil.4.80–81. The ladies who gather at Criseyde’s house obviously cannot bring her any comfort. In fact, the narrator instigates the reader to question whether they actually want to help Criseyde feel better, or merely get together.
