After receiving the news of Criseyde’s betrayal, Troilus expresses his lament. He directs his anguish towards Fortune, cursing her for the misfortune that has befallen him (lines 4.260–66, 4.274–287). In his despair, Troilus then turns to Love, invoking its mercy and seeking solace in its transformative power.
