- English translations (Windeatt: 1998): And now see why! For I dare say this: if she’s unfaithful, I can’t believe that she’ll write back. And if she does write, you’ll very soon see whether she has any freedom to return; or else, if she be prevented from coming, she’ll reveal the cause in some clause!
- Japanese translations (Sasamoto: 2012):
- Chinese translations (Fang: 1956):

Comments from the Editor
Pandarus advises Troilus to write a letter to Criseyde. According to his words, if Criseyde is unfaithful, she will not respond, but if she is unable to return, she will provide an explanation. This differs slightly from its counterpart in Fil, where Pandaro suggests that if Criseida writes back, they will be able to discern from her words whether she intends to uphold her promise or if she has developed feelings for another man.
