- English translation (Windeatt: 1998): ‘Do you know why I’m less afraid to discuss this matter with my niece? Because I’ve heard this said by the wise and learned: no man or woman was ever yet begotten who wasn’t disposed to suffer the heat of love, either heavenly love or else natural love. So I hope to find some favour in her.
- Chinese translation (Fang: 1956):

Comments from the Editor
Pandarus comforts Troilus that no one, not even Criseyde, can reject the heat of love. He underscores his knowledge of Criseyde and expresses confidence that she would accept Troilus. However, the more he shows that he knows Criseyde, the more the reader feels that he is taking advantage of his role as her uncle. As Criseyde asserts, being her uncle Pandarus should have helped to protect her reputation; instead, he cares only about Troilus’s sexual desire.
